Additional CCTV Could Reduce Night-time Crime

The Home Affairs committee has been talking to campaigners about reducing offences against women in pubs and clubs.

Since 2021 the Home Affairs committee says it has been working to cut down on inappropriate behaviour in town, such as nonconsensual touching, verbal abuse and drink spiking.

After speaking to campaigners earlier this week, the committee says it will look at the possibility of putting CCTV into pubs.

Deputy Sue Aldwell explains why improving safety on a night out is important:

"We are working for a cultural shift.

It is really important that people feel confident going out on an evening, and that they don't have people disrespecting them."

Deputy Sue Aldwell says bar owners should consider adding additional surveillance voluntarily - to protect customers:

"I shouldn't imagine that we would be able to enforce it, but we would hope that we would be able to get the pubs and the clubs on board because obviously, they want to make sure that their premises are safe and secure."
