Covid Autumn Boosters Begin 5 September

Parents in Guernsey have until next Saturday (3 September) to get their primary-school-age child vaccinated against Covid-19 before autumn boosters begin.

From Monday 5 September eligible Islanders will be able to get their autumn booster jab.

Anyone aged over 50, people who are clinically vulnerable, their households, carers over the age of 16 and care home residents and their staff as well as front line workers will be the first to get the vaccine.

People in these groups will receive a letter urging them to book their appointment, which can be done by calling the Vaccination Contact Centre on 01481 220001.

Doses will be given out at the new Community Vaccine Centre in Raymond Falla House in Burnt Lane or at GP surgeries.

Until then, there's a drive for parents to get their children vaccinated before the return to school at the start of September.

Five to 11 year olds will be able to get their first vaccine from the new CVC tomorrow (27 August) and next Saturday (3 September).

Second doses will be offered every other Saturday afternoon until Saturday 26 November

The States is still waiting to hear from the UK Department of Health if the new Moderna jab will be offered to the Bailiwick.

The UK became the first country in the world to approve the 'next generation' vaccine, which targets both the original strain of COVID as well as the newer, more contagious Omicron variant.
