A two hour hearing with the Committee for Economic Development will focus on negotiations with Jersey and the awarding of a Guernsey only contract to Brittany Ferries.
After months of joint negotiations, Guernsey went it alone in October and announced that it had selected Brittany Ferries to run freight and passenger services for the coming 15 years.
Jersey has yet to reach a decision between that operator and DFDS.
Scrutiny Committee president, deputy Yvonne Burford, says the two hour session on Monday 9 December will focus on the awarding of the contract by Economic Development:
"This is a matter of significance to all islanders, both financially and because of our dependency on freight services and travel to the UK, Jersey and France. I welcome this opportunity to examine this issue in more detail.”
Deputies Gavin St Pier and Simon Fairclough will question the political and civil service members of Economic Development to find out about the decision process and why a joint tender was not awarded.
The CEO of Brittany Ferries, which is a majority owner of Condor Ferries, has told us that if they do not secure the routes for both islands then they will sell both a fast and traditional ferry. Christophe Mathieu also told us that the Guernsey service will be operated under the name Brittany Ferries, so ending a long association between Guernsey and the shipping line.
The hearing will take place at the Castel Douzaine Room, between 10am and 12 noon, on Monday 9 December 2024.
