In-House Airport Security Transfer Progresses

Guernsey Ports and the security firm G4S are finalising the handover of Airport security services to the States.

From 1st April 2024, Guernsey Ports will operate security at both Guernsey and Alderney airports.

Ports says that managing security and its compliance can be complex and already takes up a lot of officer time, so it makes sense to run it entirely in-house.

The majority of staff currently employed by G4S have chosen to remain at the Airport - and will receive the 'favourable employment terms' associated with working for the States - such as a pension.

Some other employees have chosen to work in other locations run by G4S.

Guernsey Ports, Head of Passenger Operations and Aviation Security, Steve Langlois, says it's going well:

“The work that is underway to transition the team from G4S to Guernsey Ports is progressing well and is on track for 1 April 2024.

We have been working closely with the management of G4S throughout the transition to ensure a smooth handover.

We will shortly be commencing a recruitment campaign for a small number of security officer roles."
