Islanders are once again being asked to keep an eye out for Asian Hornets, as three nests have been discovered in the past week.
The Asian Hornet Team joined forces with Treevolution to remove a large Asian hornet nest from South Esplanade, yesterday evening (12 September).
They used a cherry picker to reach the nest on top of an oak tree outside the Credit Suisse offices.
Civil Protection Volunteers supervised the road closure between 17.30 and 21.00.
This follows the discovery of nests in Les Villets and Bulwer Avenue.
Coordination Officer Francis Russell urges islanders to report any suspected sighting of Asian Hornets because they pose a serious threat to honey bees and other insect pollinators.
"By the end of autumn last year, we had removed a total of 14 nests so to have only found three so far is good news.
"Plans are underway to tackle the nest near Bulwer Avenue, which is situated in a pine tree.
"We’re very grateful for the professional support we received from the Civil Protection volunteers and Treevolution.
"Without their help and expertise, we wouldn’t have been able to secure the area, access this nest and remove it without any risk to the public.”
