Islands Unlimited has been testing its 316 seater catamaran in moderate to rough seas off Malta.
The vessel, named the San Pawl, is back in the water after her annual check and maintenance.
Chad Murray, a former Condor captain, Guernsey harbour master and a director of Islands Unlimited, says she is testing well:
“I’ve spent a number of days operating her as Master on the route here in Malta and have been impressed with her sea keeping qualities.
"As a surface effect ship, the air cushion system provides good comfort, even in moderate to rough sea conditions, as well as good efficiency and speed.
"I have been really pleased with how the works and surveys have gone, resulting in a clean bill of health for another year”.
He says Islands Unlimited crew have been undergoing familiarisation and handover training ahead of taking over the ship.
Chad Murray says it has been painted in the new company's colours but will sail under the Maltese Flag where she is currently registered. He says it is a reputable registry.
The plan is to get the vessel into service on 30th May.
To achieve this, it will be put on a heavy lift ship at the beginning of May and will arrive in Guernsey by mid month:
“Timescales are tight and so we are looking to get as much done before the heavy lift operation while the ship is still in Malta.
When she arrives in Guernsey mid-May, the focus will be on safety and familiarisation training, drills and operational trials, as well as setting up elements such as the onboard café and bar. We are comfortable with the timeline, but there isn’t much room for delay”.
