No Evie Bikes This Summer

The electric bike and car company says it needs a commitment from the States to create more cycle parking.

Evie has been operating its brightly coloured electric bikes in both Guernsey and Jersey for a number of years.

And while they'll continue to feature in Jersey, alongside electric cars, Evie won't be renting out bikes in Guernsey this summer.

In a statement, Evie's Barrie Duerden says they need the States to help them develop cycle parking around the island:

"We have looked very hard at establishing a permanent base for a local dockless electric bike business.

But in order to cover the fixed costs, we would require a significant improvement in permanent public realm shared mobility infrastructure (cycle parking) in the island."

Barrie is hopeful this can be achieved:

"We continue to work with the States of Guernsey to assist them in creating the necessary environment for shared bike and car mobility to flourish, particularly as our experience in Jersey shows that it can be successful.”

Barrie says the bright yellow Evie bikes seen here over the past few years are going to a good home:

“The old fleet of bikes were at the end of their life and have been donated to The Eleanor Foundation to start a second life in Tanzania."
