Octopus demolition at Guernsey's La Vallette continues

Workers are carefully taking down the fire ravaged former restaurant.

Demolition of the Octopus bistro at La Vallette is progressing.

It was largely destroyed by fire on 24 February and is now being taken down by specialist contractors using a mechanical digger.

They are wearing PPE to ensure they do not inhale any potentially toxic dust, although as many slates containing what is thought to be asbestos were removed prior to demolition. These were left over from the old Half Moon Cafe that Octopus replaced.

The structure and the lorries carrying away the waste are also being sprayed down with water.

Air monitoring equipment has been put up on the first straight of the Val des Terres that overlooks the site.

Insurers estimate it will take another six weeks to take down the building. The restaurant's owners have said they intend to rebuild and return to business.
