Police "MDMA" investigation update

The condition of a 16-year-old girl who was admitted to hospital last week after taking what's believed to be ecstasy is improving.

Detective Inspector Lisa Sylvester from the public protection unit at Guernsey Police says the investigation is still in its infancy but they have made some progress since the incident last Friday.

"The young lady is doing really well. She is stable at the moment but remains in intensive care," she said.

Nine people have been arrested in connection with the investigation. A man is in custody while six others are on bail.

Inspector Sylvester confirmed that they are continuing to try and identify the illegal substance

"We believe from intelligence that it's MDMA we are unable to confirm what exactly the commodity is until we have had it analysed."

She says analysis is taking place on a substance recovered as part of the investigation.

"As a result of our initial arrests we have recovered some like substances," she said.
