Blankets Made With Love For Eastern Europe

A group of knitters from St Martin's Parish Church has handmade 25 blankets for those in need in eastern Europe.

Mustard Seed Jersey has received the latest donation of colourful knitted blankets, in a nearly 15-year-old tradition.

The blankets will be delivered to the needy in Ukraine and the poorest areas of Romania.

Rose Helie-Pallot, from the charity, says they are beautifully created, and the fact they are handmade makes it that extra bit special.

"Those blankets are going to be a great source of warmth and comfort. I think that everyone that receives them will be absolutely thrilled."

She says previous donations have shown just how important the blankets are to people who receive them.

"One of the social workers I work with very closely was really quite shocked, he was distributing blankets and it was evident that it was getting to the bottom of the pile.

There were two very respectable ladies who were literally fighting over that last blanket.

I think that's quite shocking isn't it, that in Europe that people are so desperate for a blanket that they would be fighting."

Mustard Seed Jersey is also running its annual Christmas shoeboxes appeal which will be filled with toys and essentials for children.
