Care Inquiry Panel's Report Due Later This Month

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry will reveal later this month its verdict on the progress government has made looking after children.

The panel spent this summer reviewing what's been done in the past two years and will publish a report in a fortnight.

In July 2017, the panel exposed failings in the island's care system and identified eight areas for improvement.

The government accepted all the recommendations and set about overhauling services though has admitted the pace of change has not been quick enough.

The panel returned to the island this summer to check up - speaking to more than 200 people, getting input from 300 more and pouring over lots of paperwork.

Its conclusions will be known two weeks today. The panel says it will bring its involvement to an end and its report will suggest what further scrutiny there should be in the future.
