Children offered free football coaching from the Jersey Bulls

Jersey Bulls' After School Support Programme

Children at a St Helier primary are being offered the chance to train for free with the Bulls.

The Jersey Bulls Community Foundation is launching a pilot scheme at Rouge Bouillon School this month, to help youngsters who don't get the chance to join extracurricular football activities.

Professional coaches from Jersey Bulls FC will run the after-school sessions, which are free to join for boys and girls in Year 4 to join.

It's been made possible with sponsorship from Ogier, which has been supporting the town school since 2017.

Andre Le Rossignol, PE lead at Rouge Bouillon, says, as a town school with busy working parents from a wide range of cultures, they recognise that many pupils may not have easy or regular access to outdoor play spaces or clubs outside of school.

"The cost of external sports clubs can also prove a financial barrier to children's participation.

"The After School Support programme means that we are able to provide free and inclusive high quality and fun extra-curricular football sessions throughout the year for a large number of pupils."

It is only available for Year 4 pupils from Rouge Bouillon but could be extended to other primaries if more sponsors come forward.

Jonathon Buesnel, Jersey Bulls Community Foundation director, says they are very excited to introduce the new After School Support Programme.

"Selected schools will receive a much-needed sporting resource for free; their pupils get to experience high-level coaching in a fun environment and families benefit from a free after school club.

"Ultimately, we hope this leads to happier and healthier children who also go on to become part of our Jersey Bulls family."

The foundation's core mission is to encourage young islanders and women to get involved in sports, especially football, by offering inclusive and accessible sessions for everyone, regardless of background or circumstances.
