Climate Assembly Chair Joins Jersey Gas

Jersey Gas has hired a new Managing Director, who plans on re-shaping the business to become more environmentally friendly and help the island reach its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Emelita Robbins, who was previously the CEO at Jersey Hospice Care, takes on the energy firm's top job during what she calls 'an energy revolution'.

She previously chaired the Citizens' Assembly on Climate Change which was convened to represent islanders thoughts on the issue of how Jersey could cut its carbon footprint and make recommendations to Ministers.

Some of their comments later went on to form part of the government's recently-announced Carbon Neutral Roadmap.

Ms Robbins says her main focus will be the transition to net-zero emissions and re-shaping the company for a sustainable future:

“I am hugely excited to be joining the team at Jersey Gas in the middle of what might be described as an energy revolution.

"I am passionate about the island community and really looking forward to engaging in the business’ ambitious plans to become more environmentally friendly.

"This challenge will enable me to stimulate important debate, explore new opportunities and to be part of the Island’s Net Zero solution."
