A rescue donkey living at a sanctuary in St Brelade has been saved thanks to the generosity of islanders.
Ethel was freed from an Italian meat market and brought to Chestnut Farm in Jersey to find her forever home.
The team at the sanctuary said she has 'come a long way since stepping off the trailer frightened and nervous' but needed surgery in a UK veterinary hospital to remove two growths and help her 'fulfil her rehabilitation'.
An online fundraiser was set up by islander Vicky Boarder to pay for Ethel's treatment. It raised more than £3,000 in the month since it was first set up, which was enough to pay for the surgery.
Ethel's operation was successful and she's now back in the island recovering.
The team at Chestnut Farm say they are 'over the moon' with all the generosity and support the appeal has received, and they hope Ethel will have fully recovered by the summer.
