Durrell's new board of trustees will be announced at the first members' meeting since surviving a vote of no confidence.

The conservation charity's board of trustees will resign at the AGM, with eight candidates announced to fill their boots.

19 people have applied for the roles.

The charity's key decision-makers faced a resolution, in May 2024, demanding they resign and calling for an independent investigation into the zoo's management.

However, they kept their positions after members voted 710 - 1985 to keep them.

Moving forward, AGM members will be able to look at Durrell's finances and changes to the Trust's rules on 5 December 2024.

They will also be able to vote on a resolution of whether the Chairman of the Trust should live in Jersey with immediate effect.

Members who want the Chairman to live here believe the skills needed to 'run a multi-dimensional organisation' have been lacking over the past year.

In a statement, they say when asked how often the Chairman visits the zoo, he could not say how many times he had visited, and they believe it is 'unacceptable'.

"Durrell needs expertise to recover from significant staff and volunteer loss, as well as the documented collection and operational issues.

"It is essential that the Chair is in a position to visit the zoo, as and when that person desires and not be constrained by periodic visits when visiting the island."

Those against the resolution say Durrell is a global organisation, working in dozens of countries and more than half of its employees are basked outside Jersey.

"The role of the Chairperson at Durrell is to oversee the governance of the entire Trust, not just its operations at Jersey Zoo.

"Between formal meetings, the Chairperson and other Trustees support the Trust as necessary, visiting the zoo and Durrell field programmes in the UK and beyond, as well as liaising with donors and attending Durrell events.

"It is essential that the Board be able to appoint the most suitable person to the role according to the breadth and depth of their skills and the needs of the moment, not their place of residence."

The AGM is at the Royal Yacht on 5 December at 6pm and places must be reserved in advance.
