First Of Four New Defibrillators In St John

A disused phone box in St John's Village is now home to a public defibrillator.

The Jersey Heart Support Group will be training staff at businesses in the precinct in how to use the heart-starting machine.

It's the first automated external defibrillator - or AED - installed by the parish, but Constable Andy Jehan says he hopes three more will be in place over the coming months.

They are due to be placed at St John's Recreation Centre, the JSPCA charity shop in Sion Village and in Bonne Nuit Bay.

Constable Jehan says it came about after parishioners contacted him in the wake of footballer Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest during a European Championship match last summer.

St John already has three privately installed defibrillators outside the Co-op at Sion, Barette Commercial Centre on Mont Mado and at Ronez quarry.
