Jersey's politicians have approved making 8 May a bank holiday, to allow islanders to celebrate the King's Coronation.

The decision brings Jersey in line with the rest of the British Isles, who already proclaimed the day a bank holiday in November 2022

The official ceremony will take place on the Saturday (6 May) in Westminster Abbey where The King will be crowned alongside The Queen Consort, Camilla.

The Chief Minister proposed the public holiday to the States Chamber.

"I feel it is appropriate to also observe a public holiday on this very special and historic occasion and allow islanders to mark it however they chose.

Official plans to celebrate the Coronation are being developed by the Bailiff's Chambers and each of the parishes will also hold their own events too, which we look forward too."

It's followed by Liberation Day, the Channel Islands national day, which will mean a four day weekend for islanders.
