Hotel For Disabled Opens Community Hub

Jersey's only hotel which is adapted for visitors with disabilities is opening its doors to locals.

A community hub has opened at Maison des Landes in St Ouen, with service-users being able to use the facilities in the hotel including the pool, wellness room and gardens.

President of the trustees , Peter Tabb, says it's not just for those with disabilities, but a place where groups, charities and organisations can meet.

"We're inviting people with disabilities, the elderly and the lonely and we have spoken to a large number of organisations and other bodies about bringing their members to the hotel for the community hub."

The hotel reopened in June following the pandemic and a £3.85m refurbishment.

Peter told us the first summer season has been as good as they'd hoped.

"It has been as good as we could hope it would be.  Having been out of the loop for three years in terms of our normal visitors coming from the UK, we knew we would have to take time to re-establish it - more than our first season."

The Hub will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11am to 4pm.

"We were able to raise the cost of the refurbishment thanks to the generosity in particular of a number of local charitable trusts and we were well aware that what attracted much of that generosity was that once the hotel was functioning we would be opening its extended facilities for the benefit of local people, the disabled, elderly, those with infirmity and the lonely.

Our aim with the Community Hub is to provide somewhere special for deserving local people.”
