Bookings are due open for sailings between Jersey and Guernsey on Brittany Ferries from April.
Guernsey's ferry operator will run service between the islands every Wednesday.
The French ferry firm announced its plans in November and has said it's been waiting since then for Ports of Jersey to confirm permissions so that it can start selling tickets.
The uncertainty over sea links between the islands has persisted since Guernsey and Jersey's governments chose separate operators for a new contract, with Guernsey opting for existing provider Condor Ferries (now re-branded to the name of its parent company, Brittany Ferries) and Jersey choosing Danish firm DFDS.
It's understood DFDS will also offer a weekly service, though details are yet to be announced.
Guernsey's Economic Development Committee President, Deputy Neil Inder, also says officers from the islands' governments are talking to Manches Iles Express about putting on extra passenger sailings for sporting fixtures and other events.
Higher demand for inter-islands ferries is expected for sporting fixtures such as rugby's Siam Cup and the football Muratti in May.
"(We know) that there’s been a real frustration in both islands at the amount of time it’s taken to announce inter-island sailings."
Deputy Inder says the two islands’ close relationship matters a great deal to both communities in lots of different ways, so regular transport links are essential.
"I look forward to the first tickets going on sale..., finally giving people an option to travel from Jersey to Guernsey and from Guernsey to Jersey by sea over the coming season."
Last week, another firm - Islands Unlimited - released a provisional schedule for daily summer passenger services between June and September.
Deputy Inder added that bookings for French passengers to Guernsey are up '77% on this time last year, as a result of the new Brittany Ferries schedule.
“It’s very encouraging to see the new timetable already proving attractive to French visitors, which is a market with real potential for growth, and I know a lot of hard work is taking place with industry leaders and States officers to promote Guernsey as a destination in France."
