Islanders encouraged to stand for election in 2026

Islanders are being asked to consider standing in the 2026 Jersey election.

Jersey's Official Election Guide has launched a campaign to encourage people to think about whether they could be the right fit for any of the 49 roles in the States Assembly.

The guide launches today, two years since the last Island elections.

It's encouraging people in Jersey to stand, with these words of encouragement:

'What you do and say, and how you vote in the States Assembly can have a direct impact on the new laws and regulations that govern all of us.

'You can highlight issues that you and those you represent feel are not receiving the attention they deserve.

'You will play a part in ensuring our society and economy are fit for purpose today and into the future.

'You will also be representing those in the Parish or constituency that you are standing in.'

It also advises those thinking of throwing their hat in the ring to start their campaign planning early.

The guide states that those serious about the role will also have to leave their current jobs, once their candidacy is confirmed.

All states members get paid a salary of £56,875.

Vote.je Campaign Manager, Emily Thomas, hopes this campaign will inspire the best candidates:

“Islanders told us they want high quality candidates and parties that are clear about who they are and what they stand for.

"The ‘Plan To Stand’ campaign sets out to inspire and empower potential candidates to take action early and prepare to deliver their best possible election campaign that builds connections and trust with voters.

"The aim is that Islanders will be motivated to turn out and vote in 2026 because there are plenty of high calibre options on the ballot paper that align with voters’ views and values.”

The full guide can be accessed on the Jersey government website.
