Jersey Christmas Appeal Raises £95,603

Hundreds of less fortunate islanders are set to benefit after this year’s Jersey Christmas Appeal raised £95,603.

A six-hour charity auction on Channel 103 wrapped up a month of fundraising - with 198 lots including naming a character in a Peter James novel and having lunch with the Real Housewives of Jersey going under the hammer.

JCA Treasurer, Annette Blanchett, says it is great to see the island coming together for a good cause:

"We've raised over £95,000 which is just amazing. I think as well to have such fun doing it, and for so many islanders and the community to get involved whether they're pledging £10 or bidding £1,000 on a lot. It's been an amazing day and really speaks volumes about the generosity of islanders."

She added that all the money raised makes a big difference:

"All the money goes to families on the island. We have an application process and anyone who has a financial need over the festive period can apply for assistance. We provide that in the form of grocery, toy or heating vouchers depending on their circumstances."

The Jersey Christmas Appeal started back in 1897, raising £26 under the name of the Jersey Dinner Fund.
