The Jersey International Air Display will go ahead next month, following public donations and support from businesses.

A online crowdfunding appeal has raised £31k to get the event off 2024 event off ground.

Organisers had warned they might have to cancelled the popular show if they did not raise enough money.

This is the second year in a row an appeal has been made to islanders to cover the event's shortfall. 

Organisers say this was due to increasing costs and a cut to their grant from the government, which was £40,000 this year. 

That's down from the £60,000 in taxpayer funding received in 2023.

A deadline to raise £50,000 to save the event was initially set for 16 August.

More than £31k was given online which, added to commercial and private sponsorship, means the display can go ahead on 12 September.

Event organiser Mike Higgins says he is 'eternally grateful':

"Thanks to the generosity of islanders, we've now got sufficient funds and we believe we can put on the air display. 

"We will have to make cutbacks, which will be primarily made in the area of the static display at the airport.

"Also, we won't be able to do the STEM activities that we wanted to do."

Looking forward, Mr Higgins says the event's financial strategy will be undergoing a rethink: 

"We've been trying to develop the air display and bring it back to where it was in 2013 - and even better. 

"In 2013, we were awarded the Paul Bowen Trophy for being one of the best air display's in Europe. 

"We'd like to get back to that standard and to do that we need long term funds, so we will be going out and trying to secure long term finance."
