Mini Gorillas Get Big Reveal

Brightly coloured young gorillas are about to take over the island.

From next Tuesday more than 40 sculptures decorated by children of all ages will go on show to the public.

It's ahead of Durrell's Go Wild Gorillas art trail featuring 40 big Silverbacks being unveiled later this month.

Jersey Zoo's Education Manager Fiona Marchant has been telling Channel 103 the plan for the smaller models:

"They are going to be in shop windows, they are going to be in indoor protected spaces because they are little and delicate and we need to be nice to them - but these works of art are going to be across the island for us to find."

The trail is to celebrate Durrell's 60th anniversary and to raise money for a new gorilla enclosure.

"The creativity and passion put into this project has absolutely blown me away.  Jersey's young people, teachers and community groups should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished and I really look forward to the gorilla sculptures going out into the community so that we can share this beautiful work with you all.  We hope that this trail will encourage everyone to explore our island and experience the spectacular natural beauty that Jersey has to offer."

Details of where the young gorillas are placed can be found at gowildgorillas.org from 9th July.
