Parish opposes new St Helier homes over 'woefully inadequate' parking

St Helier's Roads Committee is opposing a new housing development on St Clement's Road because of what it calls 'woefully inadequate' parking.

32 new flats are proposed for the former Lucas House site, comprised of 18 one-bedroom homes, 12 two-beds and two three-bedroom apartments.

The housing development would be called Eastern Railway Mews and faces the Hotel de Normandie.

There are concerns that the 13 car spaces planned for the households are far too few, with the committee 'strongly' believing there should be at least one space per flat.

"St Helier parishioners should have the same right to own or park a car as those living in rural parishes."

Developers have made provision for four motorcycle spaces and 61 bicycle spots, with room for cargo bikes.

There are also plans for shared gardens, with play areas, and multiple roof gardens for residents.

The planning application includes a commercial unit created as part of the development.

St Helier's Road Committee says it is also concerned about the use of Rodney Avenue, a 'quiet' residential road, to access the mews.

The application' has drawn 38 comments, largely from neighbours who are also opposing it.
