Rape Campaign: ‘You Will Get Caught’

Jersey Police have launched a major new campaign to tackle rape and sexual offending.

It has been timed to coincide with the updated Sexual Offences Law, which comes into force later this month.

Adverts have been placed on social media, and in pubs and clubs across the island, with the strap-line You Will Get Caught’.

Pictures of predatory animals are used to illustrate that rape is not about a misunderstanding of consent – but about power, control and predatory behaviour.

The new Sexual Offences Law will set out clearer definitions of consent, create an offence of man rape for the first time and make sexual grooming of a child a specific offence, with sentences of up to 10 years in prison.

Acting Superintendent Alison Fossey says tackling rape is a priority and the force is committed to encouraging more victims of sexual crime to speak out.

“We are acutely aware that sexual crime is under-reported but we remain committed to working with partners, especially support and advocacy services such as SARC at Dewberry House, JAAR, and the Jersey Women’s Refuge, to encourage victims of sexual crime to report it.”

The campaign is being run in English, Polish and Portuguese.
