Road Reopens Ahead Of Schedule

Mount Bingham has re-opened to traffic head of schedule, following resurfacing work.

It should ease traffic congestion for commuters, who have been complaining of long delays.

It concludes the resurfacing works on roads leading to town from the east of the island, which began in early January.

The government has thanked motorists for their patience:

"We acknowledge there are various roadworks currently delaying journeys for many Islanders, particularly those on daily commutes into town and on the school run, and we thank you for your patience as we carry out this important work for the benefit of the Island.

The essential highway maintenance carried out at Green Street and Mount Bingham has helped to ensure good quality, safer roads."

Drivers continue to experience delays into town from the west because of drainage work along the Inner Road at West Park.

That is expected to go on until 1 May,

Elsewhere, Victoria Street has reopened after a hole opened up there on Tuesday.

Jersey Water was investigating. It had been working in the area last month following a burst main.

It says there is no evidence of a further leak.   The road has been patched and reopened.
