Second man charged over deaths of L'Ecume II fishermen

Jervis Baligat, Michael Michieli and Larry Simyunn

A 29-year-old UK national has become the second man to be charged over the deaths of the three fishermen who were lost at sea after a collision with the Commodore Goodwill.

Lewis Peter Carr has been charged with the 'unlawful killing' of skipper, Michael Michieli, and his crew, Larry Simyunn and Jervis Baligat.

The three men died at sea after a collision between their fishing trawler, L'Ecume II, and a Condor shipping ferry in the early hours of 8 December 2022.

Police arrested Carr this morning (24 July 2024) and he will be appearing before the Magistrate's Court.

He joins Ukrainian national, Artur Sevash-Zade, who was arrested and charged earlier this month, in the charges.

States of Jersey Police claim no further arrests are planned as part of Operation Nectar.

"Our thoughts remain with the families of three men who died."
