Speed limits lowered on several Jersey roads

Lower speed limits apply on several roads in Jersey from today (25 November).

Bonne Nuit Bay has been cut from 40 miles an hour to 20, as has La Rue des Saints Germains in St Lawrence.

St John's Village also becomes a 20mph zone.

Earlier this month, a new crossing was put in outside the parish hall, with another on La Route du Nord.

Parish Constable Andy Jehan, who is also the island's Infrastructure Minister, said:

"..reducing the speed limit to 20mph throughout the village will ensure pedestrians feel safer when crossing the busy main roads that pass through the village."

La Rue de Sorel towards Sorel point and part of Le Pulente Hill between the railway walk crossing on La Rue de la Sergente to just north of the slipway now have 30 mile an hour limits instead of 40.

A government statement said:

"These adjustments aim to improve safety and reflect the island’s commitment to responsible traffic management."
