St Mary's School £6.5 Upgrade

St Mary's Primary school is hosting two open days to show off its £6.5 million pound upgrade

Work is due to start next month on remodelling the building, parts of which date back to 1901.

There will be a new nursery, bigger classrooms, a new roof for hall and connecting corridors between the three listed blocks.

Plans are on show between 2:15pm and 3:30pm this afternoon, and between 11.30am and 1.30pm on Friday.

Headteacher Maria Stegenwalner says it won't look dramatically different from the outside though;

"When you drive past the school, you shouldn't be able to tell that anything has happened.  The building is quite iconic, and we certainly don't want to get rid of any of that.  We are retaining all the good bits."

The redevelopment will take two years.
