Storm-Hit Schools To Re-Open After Half-Term

Haute Vallée and Mont à l'Abbé Secondary school will open as normal after the half-term break, after the stormy weather forced them to close.

Damage was caused to the roof of Haute Vallee by Storms Ciara and Ines, with students and staff having to leave the area because of flying debris.

Haute Vallée was only open to Years 10 and 11 today, while Mont à l'Abbé secondary was completely closed so repair work could start.

That work is ongoing to make it safe for students and staff to return on Monday 24 February.

"Parents and carers of students at Haute Vallée School and Mont à l'Abbé Secondary School are being advised today that both schools will re-open after half-term, as normal, on Monday, 24 February.

"We would like to thank parents and carers for their understanding and co-operation following the unexpected closure of both schools. This was a consequence of the high winds that we have experienced over the last few days, which caused disturbance to the roofing fabric at Haute Vallée School.

"The safety of all members of our school community is paramount and Jersey Property Holdings are completing remedial repairs to the roof to ensure that the site is safe for students and staff to return back to school after the half-term break." - Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department.
