TGI Fridays on Jersey's Waterfront up for sale as operator enters administration

TGI Fridays in St Helier

The future of Jersey's TGI Fridays is in doubt as it's one of 87 of the restaurant chain's branches up sale as its operator enters administration.

The company which owns TGI Fridays has fallen into administration, with a scramble to sell its eateries to new owners, which it hopes will be completed by the end of September.

However, it's not known if a buyer will be found to operate all 87 restaurants or just some of them. For the time being, the American-style diners will continue to trade as normal.

The chain employs around 4,500 people nationally.

Currently, TGI Fridays is one of only three hospitality venues still operating on the Waterfront Complex, alongside KFC and Cineworld.

Others that have operated from the site - Pizza Hut, Arcadia and The Bar - have closed leaving several large empty units opposite the new Horizon apartments.

The first TGI Friday's restaurant opened in New York in 1965, with the first UK diner in Birmingham in 1986.
