Votes For Women Centenary Parade

A parade is being planned to mark 100 years since women in Jersey got the vote

It is one of a number of events for the centenary of women's suffrage in July.

Female rate-payers aged over 30 were given the right to vote on 12th July 1919.

The group Jersey Women in Politics is organising a parade for Sunday 13th July from Seale Street to the Royal Square.

Throughout 2019, Jersey Heritage has renamed its series of talks to 'What's her street's story? - focusing on the contribution of prominent female figures to the island's history.

It will include Lady Boot, Constance Brown and Claude Cahun, Louisa Gould (pictured) and Ivy Forster and the story of Caroline Trachy - the first woman who was blocked from standing for election to the States.

The first talk is taking place on 16th February at Jersey Archive and is entitled 'Iconic Jersey Women and the Story of the Vote'.
