Young Tortoises In Shop Window Takeover

A trail of young tortoises decorated by schools and community groups will appear in shop windows across Jersey next summer.

They will feature alongside the giant tortoise sculpture trail that was announced by Durrell last month.

50 smaller versions will form part of the art project.

“We want Tortoise Takeover to bring together schools, colleges, nurseries and community groups to create a wild and whimsical ‘creep’ of young tortoises. We hope to see innovative and imaginative designs that showcase the creative talent of every part of our community. We want to make this trail as inclusive and accessible as possible.” - Fiona Marchant, Conservation Learning Manager at Jersey Zoo.

The Tortoise Takeover Creative Learning Programme invites all schools and community groups in Jersey to take part.

Each participating school or group will receive a blank sculpture as well as a curriculum-linked learning resource pack.

After the trail, the little tortoises will join the big ones for  a farewell weekend before returning to live with their adopted schools and groups.
